U Turn, or Going in Circles?

Why is it SO hard to get back on a diet plan once you get off? It's crazy! Is the motivation gone? Nope. Is it that maybe you're thinking 'oh, I've cheated, so one more day of cheating won't hurt'? Maybe.

I had full intentions of having a good YOAD day today. I did my walking, I had my Cheerios, I had my salad, I got out and was active, and then.....I went over to the dark side.

I drove by TGI Friday's with my daughter. TGI Fridays is her favorite restaurant and she asked if we could go. I said sure. I had very good intentions to be good and eat healthy. Well you know what they say about the road to hell and what its paved with. So we went in and I saw all the wonderful YOAD friendly foods and contemplated getting something really healthy and then I saw it.. You see, there's a 3 course special for $12.99 which gets you appetizer, entre and dessert. SO I gave in. (psst. the cinnabon cheesecake is awesome - just in case you were wondering).

My daughter and I had a good meal with good conversation. I came home around 3 and have been snacking since. Yeah, I feel guilty. I've told myself "I can get back on YOAD tomorrow"(how many times have we ALL said that??). So as I put down my pint of Breyer's Vanilla Ice Cream, I write this, with a full tummy and a guilty soul. Tomorrow's another day. I go to work tomorrow and the temptation will decrease dramatically. Tomorrow's another day for me and YOAD.

And how did your Saturday go?

  1. The first step to recovery is admitting there's a problem, right? You're doing fine! How many times have we all done exactly what you did yesterday but done it without a thought? I can tell you I have at least a million times...a few hours or even days later, I realize that I was supposed to be on a diet. To me, being mindful in the act is a HUGE step in the right direction.

My Saturday way okay. I worked all day and then went to my favorite bar in San Francisco. I only had 1 beer so I'm considering the whole adventure a complete success. I even got up this morning and did my cardio and strength training...yay!

Hang in there, friend! We're all here for you!!

  2. We were having the EXACT same day, Rich. My Saturday started bright and early at the gym, cheerios, yummy salad,.....and then....da-da-da-duuuuuun....the offer of Mexican food for dinner which all will power went flying out the window. Then....oh yes...there's more....Dairy Queen's Cheesequake followed. My body was in a state of shock and I quickly went into what I call a "Fat Coma" My eyes were glossy eyed and I lie there motionless on the couch full of yuckiness and disappointment.
So now it's a new day and I'm fighting to gain back my control! It's so much harder on the weekends for me....too many people around to tempt me....and I'm not in the usual routine of the week. UGH!
Okay....enough of my sulking and ramlbing!
Basically....I guess I'm just trying to say....I know EXACTLY how ya feel! :o)

  3. My Saturday was pretty good, though I did have another piece of b-day cake. I told my daughters this morning that the rest of the cake goes out in the trash today because it's too tempting. So, as I grabbed the cake to dump it in the trash, my right hand mysteriously reached for the silverware drawer, grabbed a fork and took one last stab at the monster before it was emptied into the trash can.

Other than the b-day cake, I've really been pretty good. I have my first complete physical scheduled for this Wednesday. I'll be 35 next year and figured that I had better get my blood work done and check the numbers cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.

Glad you enjoyed TGIF's. Good food accompanied with good company with your daughter is just plain....good.

You're a pro, Rich. I'm not worried about you getting back on the wagon in the least!!!

  4. Not good for me...I crashed on my motorcycle on Saturday morning. I'm okay, but I twisted my right ankle, have some good road rash on my right knee, and destroyed my new pair of shoes and my new pair of pants. Nothing is broken from what I can tell...I'm just sore, but hobbling around nonetheless.

So I'm interested to see how YOAD works when you just can't do the walking or strength building exercise.

Bre, I suggest bringing whole wheat tortillas with you, and having fajitas (Chicken) at a Mexican restaurant. I do this about once a week at a restaurant here in town, but I smuggle in the tortillas in a plastic bag.

  5. Wow Chris, YOU WIN!! THE WORST SATURDAY OF ALL OF US. Thank God you're alive. Let's all say a prayer you're really all right. Pants and shoes can be replaced, Chris cannot.

As far as the rest of you CHEATERS, STOP IT. 'Nuff Said. (hehe)

For the record, I had a cheat-free, Sunday with exercise! Being out of the house at work helps A LOT with the cheating.

  6. Ok people get your act together , Eat the right foods I will tell you like I tell my patients you will only feel better if you put the right fuel in your body and keep it active . Would you keep putting bad gas in your car if it didnt run correctly ( know you wouldnt ) SO DONT DO IT TO YOUR BODY ITS THE ONLY ONE YOU HAVE . GET BACK ON TRACK . DID YOU KNOW IT ONLY TAKES 30 DAYS OF EATING WELL WITH GOOD FOODS LOTS OF FIBER TO LOWER YOUR CHOLESTEROL SEVERAL POINTS
(LIFE SAVING POINTS ). Just a little advice its up to the patient to follow .

  7. Chris: I'll take you up on your previous offer of prayer. We're having it very rough in Southern California right now. I'm situated right on the Los Angeles and Orange County line, in the middle of the fires. It's tough to breathe, our eyes and lungs are burning. So many people are losing their homes. I haven't seen a blue sky in days. Ashes are everywhere.

We just bought a fully-loaded toy hauler (travel trailer)and it's stored right where the fires are in Orange County. I can't move it. I don't even know if it's safe from burn areas.

Anyway, everyone, do a rain dance. Pray that we get the resources we need, air and ground, to fight these fires.

  10. Hi Rena,

It's an Attitude toy hauler, 30 ft, fiberglass with nice living quarters. We've only used it twice for our races.

I'm off to the doc this morning for a complete physical. I'm leaving an hour early because I don't know what to expect of traffic right now. I'm sure it'll be pretty bad.

Any one got rain they can FedEx over here??????
