The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

The good news.. I didn't gain any weight.
The bad news.. I didn't lose any weight.

When I break through this horrible plateau I'm stuck at, I think I will do cartwheels!!

  2. No worries Rich! You're looking GREAT!
What's your "goal weight", by the way? I don't think I know that.

Hopefully you'll see that scale or measurements move a bit next week!

Go read my blog....maybe it'll make you laugh some pounds off! LOL!
    Hugs,

  3. Goal Weight is 197, for a total of 100 pounds. That's only 21 more pounds. If I could just get my body to cooperate. I did do the YOAD intermediate workout today! Maybe that will help.

  4. Hey Rich,

    Just keep on keeping on.

I've been thinking about your plateau, and all I have been able to come up with is that maybe it would be worth it to change up the diet a day or two this week. I don't mean to eat everything and everything, but maybe this is a week to eat a good 8oz or 12oz steak for dinner one day. Or a pork chop.

I know that today's beef and bison are much less lean than they were in "hunter/gatherer" days (YOAD makes this point), but I think there is some merit to the point that red meat was a part of our diet back then, and maybe it should be in a non-diet mode of the YOAD lifestyle, too. If your body gets some of that animale fat and begins to process it, perhaps your body will start back on your animal fat as well. I'm not a medical doctor, nor am I a nutritionist, so take these thoughts VERY lightly. I've questioned whether I should even mention these thoughts, for that very reason.

And although I know there are some YOAD-Nazis out there, who say to never deviate from the plan...the doctors don't seem to be that way. Once the weight is lost...keep eating basically the same, but altering every now and then (i.e. not altering every meal) isn't a bad thing, as long as the YOU-turn occurs afterwards.

Anyway, were I in your shoes, that's what I would do after four weeks of a plateau.

I know Orlando Tek said that his wife had a multi-month plateau...and then the weight started coming off again. In that case, it might also be wise to just hold steady and wait out the plateau. It just depends if you can tolerate standing on that scale next Wednesday and reading "218" again.

And congrats on doing the muscle building exercise. I'm waiting to hit 250/249 before I switch to the intermediate workout. Even though that trainer bothers me (as I've mentioned before)

  6. Now that we're getting thinner Rich, we have to really push harder at the exercise to get the weight off. We can't do the same exercise and get the same results.
Our bodies have changed and so must our exercise plans.
YOU can do it! You're beyond intermediate pal...step it up! ;-)

  7. Perhaps it's time to do a completely different kind of exercise. As you know, our bodies adapt when we do the same thing for awhile.

Personally, I've gained all of my weight between Jan. and July of this year(tough time). Before that, I had lost weight and had kept it off for about 2 years. During that initial weight loss, I didn't plateau a single time. I did something completely different for exercise every week. For example,
Week 1 treadmill 5 mph, no incline.
Week 2: bicycle hills, level 5 intensity
Week 3: Racquet ball (just me, a ball, and 4 walls),
Week 4: Stair climber intervals, level 6.
Week 7: treadmill 4 mph. 2 incline. etc.

No matter what, you've done incredibly. Fantastic job.

  8. Thanks Kait for the advice and starting Sunday, I'm heading to the gym again where I can do different cardio. So far, it's just been the treadmill, but after Sunday, I can do bike, stairmaster, eliptical, etc., So I WILL change it up!!! I will also do weights 3 days a week. So, damn this plateau, it's history!!!

Oh, and Shannon, I am TOO intermediate!!

    Thanks everyone.
