What Can I Say?

Ok, What can I say? Here's the excuses.. I was/am sick. I haven't walked in a 6 days, I ate comfort food, I drank a lot of fluids, I didn't do any strength exercises. As a result.. (bowing head in embarrassment) I gained 6 pounds. Can you believe it? Now, if I got all the physics right, I would have to eat 21,600 more calories (3,600 calories = 1 pound) than I burned off to gain 6 pounds. IMPOSSIBLE. That would be the equivilent of 108 (9 dozen) Krispy Kreme Glazed Doughnuts.

My body is out of wack with this cold I have, I'm drinking a lot of fluid, but don't think I'm going to the bathroom that much. What I think is happening is my body is holding on to fluid. A natural response to having a cold? A response to cold medicine? I don't know. But what I do know is that 21,600 calories?? NO way. My waist is still the same (38").

So with that said, I'm feeling a little better. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill today and sweated a LOT more than usual. I have been running to the bathroom more often and I'm getting off the cold medicine. It will be interesting next week for sure. Which reminds me. Next week's weigh day will be skewed. I have a colonoscopy scheduled next Wednesday, so Tuesday will just be clear fluids and that wonderful 'cleaning out' medicine, so next Wednesday's numbers will be affected by that. No pictures this week. Nothing to smile about.

  1. I'm willing to bet that you're retaining a lot of fluid right now. Especially with the soups you've been eating (unless you've been very careful with the salt).

    Hang in there.

  3. How in the heck did you figure your 6 pounds to be 9 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts? We're you a donut eater in your former lifetime?

    That's funny!

  4. Sorry you're feeling under the weather, Rena. Here's to hoping it will pass soon.

To figure the doughnut thing, I just went to sparkpeople nutritition tracker and typed in doughnut. It gave me the choice of Krispy Kreme Glazed doughnut. I thought 'that will work'. So I looked at the nutritional information and saw that each doughnut has 200 calories. From there, just basic math. 21,600 calories divided by 200 calories per doughnut. (21,600/200 = 108 doughnuts) (108 doughnuts / 12 doughnuts per dozen = 9 dozen)

All of that while my head is still in a cloud.

  5. I've been a little under the weather lately too, although nowhere near as bad as what you're going through. I wouldn't think we could all pass around illnesses online...lol

I'm confident that the 6 pounds will come off pretty quick once you're able to get back into a routine. Take your time though...no sense making yourself feel worse for 6 lousy pounds...just think about how small 6 is in relation to all you've lost!

Feel better...I'm sending you the healthiest thoughts I can think!

  8. I am dreading the thought of getting sick during these crucial months of my changing my life. Everytime I've gotten sick in the past it's totally knocked me off track and getting back on is sooo hard... and the comfort food is so hard to resist when you feel horrid and are feeling sorry for yourself.
I totally think that the lbs you gained are due to fluid retention. The important thing is your waist stayed the same!!! YOAD does say that our goal weight should be a range and that we will naturally fluxuate in that range for various reasons including sickness. So don't be disheartened soon as you get back on track those 6lbs won't be as hard to loose as a 'normal' 6lbs!

  9. Thanks everyone for your positive thoughts. Seems like a lot of people on my blog got sick at the same time. Curious. Here's to hoping everyone has a speedy recovery.

Shannon, my own personal nurse. HOW COOL IS THAT? lol.

Hi Mariah, welcome to my blog!! A blogger from Australia, way cool! And I totally agree that when you take a break from any diet, it's really hard to get back to it. But I think I'm there. I'm still eating my chicken soup, which should be YOAD okey dokey.

    Thanks again, everyone.
