WOW! Such Support

I read everyone's comments and thought how lucky I was to have such great support from everyone. Elizabeth said, "You are totally my inspiration". Chris said, "...congrats on another week of keeping the weight off! " Orlando said "Hang in there bud!"

I really appreciate your kind words of encouragement. From the amount of support from you guys, I'd have to say that YOU guys are MY motivation!!

Chris asks, "Is there anything you can 'tweak' on the diet at this point of the game?" I guess the only thing I can tweak is exercise. I'm eating around the 1500 calories a day. Based on what everyone says, if I go below that, I'll activate that dreaded 'starvation' mode and complicate things even more. But I'm already doing an hour day of exercising. How much of my day can I devote to walking my ass off (literally!) lol.

Dara asks "Did the green tea pills you once mentioned help? Do you still take them?" This will fall under the 'I don't know' catagory. I still take the green tea pills, but since I've not lost any weight in the last 3 week, I don't know if the 'fat burning' part of them is just hype. I do believe in the benefits of green tea though and will continue taking them for that benefit alone. I also drink Lipton's Diet Green Tea in a bottle. It tastes great! I don't know what to say about your plateau, I'm in the same boat. If you find the magic answer, let us ALL know! Congrads your 20 pounds and 5 inches lost!!

Orlando says, ".....and she went back to a pick-n-stick for breakfast designed to boost her metabolism. " What is 'pick-n-stick for breakfast'???

Elizabeth said... "Keep hangin in there, friend!" I am SO doing that!! I've come too far and worked too hard not to.

Look, I know plateaus SUCK!! We all work so hard and expect some sort of payoff come weigh day and when you step on the scale and there's no payoff we feel cheated. Plateaus are part of the process. I've said it before, this is NOT a race. There is no contest for me to get down to a certain weight by a certain date. This is a new lifestyle change for me. I WILL get to my goal, I will stay motivated, I WILL succeed. Failure is NOT an option. And with great support from friends like you guys, it will make these little bumps in this road a lot more tolerable. Thanks guys!

Rich

  1. I'm with ya! I'm here to support you through the entire journey, my friend. I agree, without support from my online friends and message board posts, I would not have had the success that I've already experienced.

I appreciate you very much and you are an inspiration in more than weight loss. Don't get discouraged and enjoy your new found healthy lifestyle and body. Let it catch up to itself and continue to tone up. When it's ready to drop some more pounds, it will.

I happen to think you look fabulous...right now at this very moment! I am super proud of you and your accomplishments!! WTG Rich!

  5. Hi Rich! I am with you in that I can't believe the conversation, motivation, and encouragement your site has generated. All of the feedback to my question about an over weight child was awesome!

I have something kind of odd I have been trying and believe it or not, I think it is working?! I run a daycare out of my home and one of my Moms told me that she lost 60+ pounds after her second child and she looks fantastic. She told me one thing she does is before every main meal, she drinks two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Sounds weird I know but I looked up info about it and it really is legitimate so I started doing it. I put two TBS in a shot glass and fill it the rest of the way with water and drink it before every meal. To anyone who wants to try it: it has to be organic and if you forget and eat first, its too late, just wait until next time. AND just to let you know, it tastes TERRIBLE but you get used to it after a few days. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has heard of this....

Anyway, regarding your plateau, I told myself from the beginning as long as I never go back up, I am successful. I am with the person that said to celebrate another week of keeping it off!!

Have a great day and talk to you soon,
    Stephanie

  6. Hey Stephanie I have heard of this before and done some reading on it . I am going to try it also can you buy the organic at any store ? I will go get it this weekend . How long have you been doing it and have you noticed any change . Thanks for this cool tip . Oh hi Rich have a great weekend .

  7. Okay...break out your favorite Bee Gee's vinyl and disco ball, I'm back in the 70's.....170's that is! I've been in a 3 week plateau and the scale and tape measure moved!

I'm down 2 pounds and one inch.

Total YOAD loss = 22 lbs
    Total inches lost = 6

The only thing I did differently was increase my treadmill speed up to 3.5 - 3.7 for 30 minutes and started drinking Diet Lipton Green Tea, Mixed Berry flavor.

    Anyway..thought I'd share!

  8. Hi Rena! I have found it at most any store if they have a health food section. Its not where the regular vinegar is though. I have been doing it for about a month and I have noticed a difference I think. Its hard to know since I have been doing lots of things for weight loss but I have been MUCH more "regular" if you get my meaning and it seems to happen quicker. Plus my weight loss has been very steady over the last three weeks for sure!
Let me know what you think when you try it. Be really warned though, it does NOT taste good at all!!!
    Talk to you soon,
    Stephanie

  9. Way to go, Dara!!! There may be hope in breaking my own plateau!! I'll be doing my best "I Will Survive" disco dance!

Rena, Hi! Alas, it's not MY weekend. In fact, today is my Monday. BLAH!

  10. Sorry Rcih , I will be thinking of you during my weekend though . Thanks Stephanie for the info I will try it . I used to be in the medical field and I know that the doctor always said that vinegar gets rid if strep throat virus if you gargle with it and it is also good for the digestive system so wish me luck .

  12. Hmm...you're eating around 1500 calories a day? That sounds kind of low to me. Do you know your BMR? Maybe you're already going into starvation mode a little??

Your blog is SO awesome, and all these friends with all this support is just so cool. We are all really lucky to have each other. (I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy today!) :-)

  13. BMR (just now calculated) is 2039.79. So according to that number and my activity level, I need to eat 3161 calories to maintain my weight. So if I'm eating 1500 calories, I should be losing a pound every other day or so. It's not happening!!

    Rich

PS. Thanks for the compliment. And yeah, I get warm fuzzies too, everytime someone comes here and posts and helps someone else.

  15. Hey Rich,

Just took this week's numbers. 259.5 and still 51 in the waist (-3.5 in weight, no change in waist). Oddly, I'm losing all the stored fat on my sides above my stomach (it's visible), while the stomach is just staying there. My guess is that one of these weeks, my body will turn its attention on the front stomach, and there will be a surprising drop in waist. As I look at other bloggers on YOAD, this seems to be the case.

I do have a question for you...in addition to your walking on the treadmill, do you also do the strength training exercises from the book? I've been making sure to do both the strength training (downloaded the videos online from the RealAge site, but the instructor bothers me because he doesn't do all the exercises himself but makes his "student" do all of them, and I also don't like how he changes counting (slows down, adds numbers, counts down and forgets where he is and adds more) and I've also been trying to get walking or other cardio (bicycling, for example) in on a daily basis.

So, I was just curious about what you're doing with that whole strength thing as well.

I'm hoping your body will reward you with a weight less than 218 on Wednesday!

  16. Pick n stick for breakfast is when you stick with the same meal everyday.

My wife used to make scrambled egges everyday but then she switched to 100% whole wheat waffles.

The eggs seem to keep her from getting hungry as fast so she doesn't snack as much between breakfast and lunch so it has helped.

  17. Rena, Thanks!! I'll keep rockin'.

Chris, It was/is the same for me. Seems like the belly fat has instituted a 'sit-in' and refuses to leave. Ok, actually it is leaving but it's slow while the rest of me seems to be shrinking a lot quicker. All in good time. About the strength training.. umm..err.. umm.. no. I know I should, but I haven't as of yet. I've watched the videos from the real age site as well and that little skinny man ticks me off as well. His attitude is like 'Since I can do it, you can do it too'.. blah blah blah.. I know it's an excuse, I know I should be, but I haven't. Bad Rich, Bad. hehe.

Orlando, Thanks. I guess I've been picking and sticking without realizing there's an official name for it! I usually eat cheerios. Occasionally I'll have eggs and that does seem to keep me fuller longer as well.

Oh well, it's off to work. blah

Take care, Eat Well everyone. Oh yeah, and exercise!! Skinny mean man or not.

    Rich
