Take Care, Eat Well

  1. There's nothing to be ashamed of, as you well know, of a plateau week, or even two. I think every now and then, our bodies attempt to stabilize themselves, particularly as we get closer to our proper weight...and it is why the last 10 pounds (or 20) are the hardest to lose.

But I was also thinking of it this way...we're all so impatient and we want to lose weight NOW, yet we gained all this weight over time. If you put weight on like you can take it off, that would be very scary for all of us indeed.

Also, the 218 weight proves that it really was your weight, as you had it two weeks in a row.

So, good work...and keep it up!

  2. Hey Chris!

Believe me, I'm not ashamed AT ALL. If anything, I'm ecstatic over the amount of weight I've lost! No, I'm not going to do my 'happy dance' if I didn't lose this week, but ashamed? Nope.

As far as taking weight off as easily and fast as we put it on... wouldn't that be frickin' awesome!! I often think about why we can gain weight so fast, and lose it so slowly. It just ain't fair!!

    How's it going for you?

  3. Hi Rich! I told myself from the beginning that as long as I don't gain - I will be happy. I have had several weeks where I have stayed the same. Anyway, my contest ends tomorrow and I think unless someone else had a REALLY good week, I am going to win! As of last Friday, I was 1.5% ahead of the second place person and I think my week is going well this week. I will for sure be doing the "happy dance" tomorrow if I am $900 richer!

On another note, do you (or anyone else out there) have any advice on how to deal with an overweight child? My step daughter lives with us full time - she is 11 and starting Junior high this year. She is really struggling with weight - I want to help her but I don't want her but I'm not sure where to start?! What do you think?
    Have a great day!

  4. Congratulations Stephanie!!! I guess we know who will be buying us a round of drinks, huh? LOL WTG!!

About your daughter, what a great topic of discussion. In fact, I'll post a fresh post on that subject so we can get some comments, suggestions, etc.

  5. Rich,

You asked how things are going...my weigh-in and measuring days are on Saturdays now, and this morning, I was 263 with a 51" waist. That's down from 275 with a 53" waist. People are beginning to notice the weight loss at this point, and that is a huge encouragement to me!

I also wanted to clarify my last comment...I think we can lose weight quicker than we gain it. It took 10 years for me to reach my starting weight (actually, I had been higher, and was on a starvation diet, and lost weight before beginning YOAD), but it is possible that in a year, all that weight could be gone. However, when someone eats with poor choices, I know the scale can go up overnight.

One more question...how does YOAD get adapted for a person once they've reached their goal? I'm full on this diet, all the time, but I'm losing weight. Once you've reached your final goal, you won't want to keep losing...so how does the diet get adjusted? Granted, I've got a while to figure it out...but that's the latest question on my mind.

  6. Way to Go Chris!!

About what do do/eat when you reach your goal. I DON'T KNOW!! I have the same question!! Does anyone know the answer? Does YOAD have some sort of 'maintainance program'??

Keep up the good work, Chris!
